Yes, I was making Mochi or Japanese Rice Cake.
Rice is powdered and made into a dough. It is then put in wooden containers and beaten with wooden hammers like the one I'm carrying.

During my final years, I met Osawa Shigeo. He has visited the Mt. Everest every year for the past 28 years. He showed me grafting skill of his Cherry Blossom plants.

Serving as the president for Aichi Foreign Students Association- AFSA

It was a privilege, to be the president of AFSA or Aichi Foreign Students' Association.
As international students, we had many common goals, interests, hurdles,challenges while attending classes in Japanese Universities.
It was a matter of great interest that the Japanese Society was very interested in the pool of talent and the contribution we can make while in Japan.
We organized this event annually to put international recipe on the table and music, dances and skits on the stage of Nagoya International Center.

Whereas other languages have one script, Japanese has 3 written scripts- Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji. There is a lot to remember but once you get it, you can express your nuance in expressing it in a different script too!

Inside a Japanese Classroom- Talking to students about Nepal.

One of the things I enjoyed while in Japan was visiting schools.
Whenever I got an invitation I always accepted visiting classrooms. Talking to these kids about my country and our students so they'd remember a visitor from Nepal.

One common thing I heard is being sleepy. Overwork and no play! Exhausted!
The young people are sleepy and old people are suffering from insomnia!!! This was my observation. I wrote this article and it raised a few eyebrows.
It was enough to make other people chuckle!

Unusal things at the Japanese Cafe- Short Article For Asahi Evening Newspaper by Astha Tuladhar

I'd leave the TV at home and go to a cafe to talk sometimes. When people watch TV at Cafe too, it gets really quiet!

For all you people who can control what not to watch on TV, rather than get exposed to all that the TV wants you to watch, a hearty conversation at a cafe with a group of friends is so much more energizing!

I wrote this article for Asahi Shinbun as it is called over there and got some good response too!

Meijo University Years were challenging, especially when there were 154 students in class and I was the only international student!!!

I am so very happy to gain support of all my classmates, friends,teachers and staff at Meijo University.

A new way of making a payment with cash- Asahi Newspaper

The idea of getting less or no change coins when you make a payment in cash seemed of little significance at first but when a jars of coins lay around your house, its time to take action.
This was an observatory article about what Japanese Shoppers did.

Japanese is a language that has three written scripts namely; Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji.
However when it comes to being vocal, there are only 5 vowels. As a result there are so many words that have the same pronunciation but a different meaning. These same sounding words are used to spice up everyday spoken language. I found it very interesting in my later years in Japan.

I had seen a group of Japanese Sumo eating at Mc. Donald's. They seemed to like the hamburgers!
The sight was so intriguing that I decided to write this short article. I never thought I'd find so many things to write about later. I wrote for Asahi Evening Newspaper for a while.

Cats in Nepal- An article in Japanese for the Cat Journal

Yes, if you are wondering, there are huge cat fans in Japan. I was asked to write about cultural views about cats in Nepali Society. It was very interesting what I found after a little research!
The name of this Journal in Japanese is "Cat Newspaper."
By the way cat is called " Biralo " in Nepali and "Neko" in Japanese.

Tsujimoto Etsuko, my classmate wrote an article relating to our meeting

I found some of the best friends in Japan. Tsujimoto Etsuko and I discussed a lot about culture and opinions because of our interest in each other. She shocked me when she said she wrote an article about me and our dicussions and debates about the world!
